Cycling
NewcastleGateshead and North East England offers a wide variety of cycling experiences for visitors and residents alike, with routes for people of all ages and abilities.
Useful sources of information:
- Newcastle Tourist Information Centre stocks a variety of cycling guides including the Tyneside Cycling Map (free), Northumbria's Cycling Kingdom, with 220 miles of waymarked cycle routes in Tyneside and Northumberland.
- Gateshead Tourist Information Centre has a variety of local guides. Other cycling activities in Gateshead take place at Derwent Park and Whickham Thorns
- Sustrans promotes projects to get people to walk, cycle and use public transport. It also co-ordinates the National Cycle Network and routes through the North East.
- North Sea Cycle Route Maps in different languages covering the 6000km route round the North Sea.
- CTC - the UK's national cyclists' organisation is the UK and Ireland's largest national cycling organisation.
